Job Summary
Our clients are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accountant with a background in the mining industry to join their team. The ideal candidate should have at least 3 years of experience in accounting and financial management within the mining sector. This role involves managing financial records, preparing reports, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, and supporting the financial decision-making process.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
- Conduct month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reported.
- Analyze financial statements and prepare detailed financial reports and statements for management.
- Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
- Ensure compliance with industry-specific regulations and financial standards.
- Perform internal audits to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial information.
- Manage fixed asset register and depreciation schedules.
- Coordinate with external auditors and provide necessary documentation for audits.
- Assist in tax preparation and filing, ensuring compliance with local and national tax regulations.
- Support financial decision-making by providing detailed analysis and recommendations based on financial data.
- Monitor and manage cash flow, ensuring the availability of funds for operational needs.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial information is available for operational decision-making.
- Stay updated on industry trends and changes in financial regulations that may impact the mining sector.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional certification (e.g., CA Zambia, CPA, ACCA) is required.
- Membership with the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) is mandatory.
- Must be a member of an affiliate body such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) or the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience in the mining industry.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as Pastel, Sage, Dove, and QuickBooks.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of environmental and safety regulations related to the mining industry.
- Full-time position with potential for overtime during peak financial periods.
- Office-based with occasional visits to mining sites.
